A mom-to-be has melted hearts online after she turned a painting date night with her husband into a surprise pregnancy reveal.
Christina Kelley, 32, always knew that she wanted to share the exciting pregnancy news with her husband Ryan, 39, in an unexpected way. When that time finally came in April, she had seen other couples doing a painting night on social media. So, she decided to copy the trend, but with a sweet “pregnancy twist” at the end.
Kelley, of Burlington, Connecticut, told Newsweek that they had “wanted to try it out” for some time, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to spring her surprise. The couple sat down to paint portraits of each other two days after she found out she is expecting, so instead of painting her husband’s face, she wrote, “Baby Kelley, est. 2025,” on her canvas.
Kelley continued: “While I was at work, I decided to stop by the store and get supplies so we could have a spontaneous date night. We set up around 6 p.m. and I was done within five minutes, but Ryan took the assignment very seriously as he wanted to do a good job.
“He ended up taking almost four hours to finish his. I had to make up little details in between to make it seem like I was also painting; hence why there’s a lot of mini dots and other details on the painting.”
Once her husband finally completed his masterpiece, Kelley asked him to reveal the portrait he had done of her. She said she was “actually surprised” by how well he had done, but of course, it had nothing on her artwork.
“At first, he thought I pranked him and written something like ‘gotcha,’ but when he processed what the words said, he was so shocked and excited,” Kelley told Newsweek.
“He took a minute to process, and I handed him the memory box of the two tests I’d done to show him. Once he saw the tests, he got up to give me a big hug.”
The couple are certainly going to keep the artwork as a keepsake, although they have since learned that their baby boy is due on December 30, 2024, not in early 2025 as they originally thought.
When the baby news was finally out and the parents-to-be felt ready to share it with the world, Kelley posted footage of their portrait painting on TikTok (@chrissy_vibes). The pregnancy reveal has melted plenty of hearts online, leading to almost 2 million views and over 201,000 likes so far.
Kelley has been blown away by the reaction, as she never expected it would generate this much attention.
“I wasn’t sure if I wanted to post it because it was an intimate moment, but Ryan said it would be cute to show our kid later when it’s all put together.
“I posted it on TikTok after the 12 weeks mark when I told our closest friends and family. Everyone’s reactions have been so wonderful and supportive,” Kelley added.
With over 550 comments on the viral TikTok post already, many social-media users hailed her adorable way of revealing the big news. One comment reads: “In tears!! You guys are so cute.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “The way I have chills and am SOBBING.”
“This is the cutest thing,” a third added.
Not to mention, there was also plenty of praise for her husband’s portrait that he spent so long on. Another comment says: “So sweet, AND, he really did a great job on your portrait! Congratulations!”
